    Purpose of the Position

    Ultimate Medical Academy is currently seeking a Director of Corporate Accounting. This is a leadership role on the Corporate Accounting team, with oversight of accounting for the entire organization. This role plays an integral part in supporting the executive leadership team.


    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    • Financial Reporting
      • Responsible for all monthly/quarterly/year-end closing activity, including performance of detailed reviews of general ledger and financial close information for completeness, accuracy and US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) compliance
      • Timely issuance of the monthly, quarterly and annual trial balance and financial statements
      • Monthly review of general ledger accounts and balance sheet accounts reconciliation
      • Review monthly cash forecast and quarterly bank reporting financial packages
      • Review variance reports and other analyses prepared by the accounting team
      • Prepare reports for various governmental agencies as well as respond to financial information requests from senior management and other departments for the preparation of regulatory and statutory compliance reports
      • Assist with reviewing federal, state and local tax returns prepared by outside tax accounting firm to ensure accurate reporting of financial information
    • Internal Control and Process Management
      • Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective internal controls, including documentation of key controls, review process effectiveness and implementation and update of standard operating procedures
      • Design and implement close process improvements to increase efficiencies
      • Identify efficiency and automation opportunities to improve process flow and productivity
      • Research and document complex technical accounting matters based on business events and/or new technical accounting literature
    • Leadership and Project Management
      • Lead and manage the corporate accounting team, including planning and directing work assignments; development of performance goals and measurements; employee recruitment; creating atmosphere of trust and support; fairly administering company policies affecting staff; and communicating information for effective job performance
      • Liaise and coordinate with financial auditors throughout the annual financial audit
      • Ownership of accounting software, including maintenance of general ledger and financial reporting system and work with IT and outside consultants to resolve issues
    • Perform other duties or special projects as requested
    • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
    • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.




    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required
    • CPA or Master’s degree preferred
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in finance or accounting required
    • Minimum of 3 years of public accounting experience preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years leading and managing required
    • Solid/Current knowledge of U.S. GAAP required
    • Proficiency with general ledger and financial reporting systems required
    • Strong skills with MS Office Suite products - particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required
    • System implementation, conversion and integration experience preferred
