Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Product Manager is responsible for the lifecycle ownership of their assigned product(s). They are responsible for creating the roadmap and vision and partnering cross-departmentally on the prioritization of initiatives. This is a highly visible leadership role in the organization with a focus on strategy.

 

The Senior Product Manager reports to the Sr. Director of Product.

 

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Functional:

  • Lead as the “CEO” of the product
  • Own the Why and the What of the product: responsible for the product vision and roadmap in alignment with broader organization goals
  • Gain a deep understanding of both internal and external customers, identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that improve customer experience and drive key metrics
  • Monitor product development progress and work with PMO to adjust schedules as needed
  • Identify and mitigate risks early
  • Work with engineering to seamlessly resolve issues and technical debt related to systems the departments utilize
  • Champion agile product management throughout the company
  • Create and update roadmaps in partnership with internal stakeholders
  • Craft product vision and ensure buy-in
  • Communicate strategy and roadmaps along with any changes constantly; drive alignment
  • Resolve ambiguity and translate product strategy into actionable items
  • Prioritize activities based on business and customer impact
  • Work closely with engineering to solve customer problems
  • Be the single point of contact for the business and lead resolution of product issues
  • Develop close relationships with business leaders to understand and solve problems, primarily within the operational departments but also with external users
  • Own the product backlog and its prioritization
  • Organize and oversee all system user acceptance testing for assigned product(s)
  • Partner with department training teams on any product updates and plan communication to all team members within the department(s)
  • Translate company strategy, business objectives, system-architecture and voice of the customer into a concrete build strategy to ensure alignment and transparency for collaborators, sponsors, and project contributors
  • Balance competing priorities and advocate for the best interests of the product
  • Ensure product is compliant with all federal, state, accreditation, and corporate regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Keep current on institutional goals, objectives, and progress.
  • Engage in institutionally sponsored activities and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Support change initiatives that impact the organization and manage others through change.
  • Coordinate efforts between departments within UMA.

Compliance:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

 

Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years experience in a product management role.
  • Ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Leadership and product strategy experience.
  • Above-average oral and written interpersonal communication skills. Able to professionally communicate in English and otherwise interact professionally with any UMA department.
  • Ability to think and act strategically as well as operationally.
  • Good organizational abilities to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Support and interact professionally in a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years experience in a product management role.
  • Experience moving products to the cloud.
  • Experience in Genesys/telephony systems.
  • Experience with educational institutions.

Working Environment:

  • Office setting; must be able to work in a remote home or UMA office, as desired.
  • Up to 10% of travel to/from/between UMA office locations may be required.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
  • Requires occasional bending, stooping, and squatting.
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
