Purpose of the Position:

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

The Director of Academic Technology plays a crucial role in ensuring innovative and impactful technologies are in place to support student engagement and success across all online, ground, and workforce programs. This leadership position is tasked with spearheading the identification, assessment, adoption, integration, and evaluation of advanced technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), simulations, academic technologies, and AI practices into the curriculum across the program portfolio. Working in close collaboration with curriculum teams, subject matter experts (SMEs), and academic staff, the Director will ensure technologies enhance learning outcomes through bolstering the learner experience, in alignment with the institution's strategic vision. The Director will keep a finger on the pulse of the latest trends in academic technologies, bringing a strong background in both clinical and non-clinical program integration.

 

The Director of Academic Technology will report to Associate Vice President of Curriculum.

 

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus. 

  • Anticipated salary of $120,000; pay rate negotiable based on experience and qualifications

Functional:

  • Formulate and execute a strategic vision for leveraging technologies across the program portfolio, including clinical and non-clinical programming.
  • Lead initiatives that foster innovative teaching and learning practices through technology.
  • Guide the selection, adoption, and assessment of healthcare technologies, ensuring they are seamlessly integrated into the program portfolio to enrich learning and teaching experiences.
  • Facilitate partnerships across departments to support the integration of technology in healthcare education, ensuring alignment with curriculum objectives and industry standards.
  • Spearhead training and development programs for faculty and staff to proficiently leverage academic technologies, emphasizing the unique needs of clinical and non-clinical settings.
  • Stay at the forefront of both healthcare technology and education technology.
  • Research and implement cutting-edge tools and methodologies, further establishing UMA as a leader in healthcare education.
  • Develop and implement evaluation frameworks to measure the effectiveness of technology integration in improving educational outcomes in both clinical and non-clinical settings.
  • Collaborate with the IT department to implement and integrate advanced educational technology in a secure and compliant manner.

Support Institutional Initiatives:

  • Keeps current with institutional goals, objectives, and progress.
  • Engages in institutional sponsored activities and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Leads with courage in support of change initiatives that impact organization.
  • Assists in coordinating efforts between departments within UMA.

Compliance:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

 

Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, healthcare education, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role, with specific experience in integrating technology within healthcare education, including both clinical and non-clinical programs. Demonstrated success in deploying VR, simulations, and other academic technologies.
  • Deep understanding of the landscape of academic technologies, especially in clinical and non-clinical contexts.
  • Proven leadership and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Strong project management, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Expertise in evaluating and adopting new educational technologies.
  • Ability to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in data-driven decision-making and evaluation methodologies.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in educational technology, healthcare education, or a closely related field.
  • Experience project managing large, complex learning solutions as scale, preferably involving emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence.
  • Proficiency in learning measurement & analytics, including developing measurement tools and data visualization.

 

Working Environment:

  • Fully remote role with only occasional, planned onsite and travel requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
  • Requires ability to travel.
  • Requires occasional bending, stooping, and squatting.
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
