Purpose of the Position:

The Business Office Specialist will be responsible for posting all Title IV funding,billing/invoicing of third-party vendors, accurate tuition billing to student’s ledgers, and timely processing of credit balances and refunds.

The Business Office Specialist reports to the Associate Director, Student Finance Business Office.

 

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus. 

  • Pay rate of $19.00.hr

Key Responsibilities:

 

Functional:

  • Maintains student account ledger cards by posting all Title IV funding and third party payments.
  • Processes and bills all third parties that work with students.
  • Schedules all credit balances listed on ledger in a timely manner as to stay in compliance with Federal regulations.
  • Reviews and accurately bills tuition and charges to student ledger cards as appropriate
  • Completes tuition adjustments to student ledger cards as appropriate
  • Assists in month and year end closing accounting process
  • Assists in any Finance related functions as appropriate

Support Institutional Initiatives:

  • Keeps current with institutional goals, objectives, and progress.
  • Engages in institutional sponsored activities and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Leads with courage in support of change initiatives that impact organization.
  • Assists in coordinating efforts between departments within UMA.

Compliance:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

 

Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience in the higher education industry.
  • Working knowledge of Title IV Regulations with the ability to locate and resolve issues on ledger card
  • Comprehensive experience with technology and/or Microsoft Office.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree
  • 3+ years of experience in Student Finance/Accounts, Business Office or Bursar’s Office activities.

Working Environment:

  • Fully remote role with only occasional, planned onsite or travel requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
  • Requires ability to travel as needed
  • Requires occasional bending, stooping, and squatting.
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
